Psalms Part 1: Planted by Rivers of Water

Some of you might know how difficult it is to run a weekly blog. We’re trying to get back on a weekly blog schedule, but the next few weeks will be incredibly busy. However, there is a solution. Not only for writing blogs but for you as well. If you’ve found yourself too busy to read the Bible, then consider the Psalms. Many of them are short and very convenient to read no matter how busy you are. So, for the next few weeks, I’ll be doing some short blog entries based on some of the Psalms.

We’re going to start with Psalm 1 verses 2,3, and 5. I’ll make some brief comments but hopefully, you’ll find encouragement in this series.

2 “But his delight is the law of the LORD,

And in His law he meditates day

and night.

3 He shall be like a tree

Planted by the rivers of water,

That brings forth its fruit in its season,

Whose leaf also shall not wither;

And whatever he does shall prosper.

5 Therefore the ungodly shall not stand

in the judgment,

Nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous.”

What a wonderful promise! We’re told that by meditating or reading, thinking about, taking in God’s word, the Bible; by making it part of our life, every day we shall be like a firmly planted tree.

I think the promise is that our life shall be strong, our acts or our fruits will be sweet and appropriate for every action. Like the fruits of the Spirit which are mentioned in Galatians 5:22.

I think the last line is also a wonderful promise. No one who remains evil can be in heaven. There will be no more evil in heaven in our congregation. We of course have to take hold of Christ’s grace and live through faith. So start delighting in God’s word, start thinking about the wonderful promises and precepts in it. As we begin to drink from the fountain of life, that is Jesus, the living water (John 4:14) our faith shall be planted; our roots will take hold and we will begin to live like Him. It’s such a peaceful scene to imagine. It’s restorative. And That’s what God intends in His law. To bring restoration to this broken world. To bring healing to your broken soul.
